This Is Not The Time (Be A Human) 2019

Synopsis:

"There is evil in this world. Children under the gun. Men and women turned to dirt. Be a human!" This is the time to help bring UNITY and peace to all Americans.

This very short film offers a moment in time that captures the energy in America during the 2016 Presidential election - and reflects the 2019 surge in protest. Poez, whom the New York Times called a “spoken-word pioneer”, calls for us to be humans and exercise our right to participate in society - to not give up even when we are feeling beaten. He calls for civil societies to embrace the exchange of dialogue, demonstrate tolerance for different view points, and support human and civil rights. Images of protest dance with his words to reflect the vivacious exchange of viewpoints on the streets in NYC during the election - and which have become increasingly important over the past two years. Filmed live on location at The Bitter End, NYC. This film has won 13 Independent film awards including Audience Choice, Best Music Score, Best Music Video, and has screened multiple times in NYC as well as Berlin, London and The Russian Federation.

Information for the Audience:

I created the original version of this film after attending an Trump protest rally, a few days after I went to see Paul Mills aka Poez perform at The Bitter End in NYC. The emotions around town during the 2016 election were everywhere - on the street, in the clubs and coffee shops. I was so moved by the mood around town, I felt compelled to create a film and Poez's words in 'This Is Not The Time' was, to me, the perfect reflection of discourse -or lack thereof - taking place in NYC at the time. I have recently updated this film to reflect the recent  - and increasingly disturbing - rhetoric of coming from POTUS.

To our surprise, the original version has been screened all over the world and has won 13 Independent Film Awards.
