"My mom says my freckles are kisses from God but they’re just where my demons hide."
Freckles is a narrative exploration of the damaging effects cultural beauty standards and body dysmorphia have on one lonely woman. This short psychological drama that follows a super-freckled thirty year-old, self-hating virgin’s descent into a dark, depressive, lethal insanity.
Lizzie is a hopelessly lonely virgin desperate for anyone to love her but she has a handicap- her Freckles. Her mother would tell her that each freckle is a kiss from God but Lizzie doesn’t see them that way at all. Her freckles have mutated in her mind to be the reason for all that is wrong and all that is missing in her life. The reason she can’t lift her head up as she walks. The reason people stare at her with pity as she walks down the street. The reason no man would ever love her.
Written, Directed and Produced by Denise Papas Meechan. Starring Jenn Halweil, Jane Dashow, Antonio E Silva.

Information for the Audience:
Society preaches for women to be perfect, thin, beautiful. None of us are. We all have something- our weight, our height, our blemishes that block us from that ideal. Women and girls must be taught to love themselves-- it is those imperfections that make us beautiful. Body-shaming is a ubiquitous and dangerous social construct. FRECKLES is a warning of the psychological damage that type of social pressure can do. Love your flaws!
