The Place We Shared

Synopsis:

A young woman travelling, looking for a place to rest, looking for a place to connect, reflecting the borders that separate her from the world, while moving to the border of Europe. On the island of Lampedusa, between the currents of migration and tourism, her inner reality is confronted with an outer reality equally determined by separation as well as contradicting second hand narratives. In this film essay, the overland journey is thought not only as a route from one place to another, but as a series of moments of displacement and shifts in perspective; moving along, outer and inner boundaries dissolve and reconfigure and in the process the static assumptions constructed upon the consumption of media images slowly give way to fragments of a narration based on one’s own bodily presence. While being more concerned with discovering complexity than drawing conclusions, the film none the less argues in favor of the necessity to think anew the reconciliation of presence and representation.
