Coming from two generations of refugees, Hishen grew up intending to embark on a career path common to many Asian American youth. He was a pre-med student who went on to serve in the Peace Corps. During this time, events transpired that catalyzed Hishen's pursuit of another life-long love - cooking. However, his time in the culinary world served to reveal his true calling in medicine.
