Pending

Synopsis:

Pending is the portrait of Abdullah Azouz, a Syrian refugee who fled his homeland, a place he describes as “Janna (heaven in Arabic)”, four years ago. Abdullah’s journey to the UK began with the start of the Syrian revolution. He was captured sending evidence of the Syrian regime’s war crimes to Western media. His escape from arrest only saved his life, but since then, he has only known uncertainty. Initially fleeing to Lebanon, Abdullah then travelled to Italy, which he was forced to leave under a deportation order. Desperately seeking refuge, he finally made his way to the UK, where he has been living in limbo for the past three years, awaiting a decision on his asylum status. “I am breaking the law. I am working illegally. But that is to avoid ending up living in the street or doing worse things that could damage the image of my country.” This is a story about one of the millions of Syrian refugees who crave for a better life, but dare not to dream anymore.
