Returning to her roots, Ana Domínguez makes a journey that goes from the personal to the ancestral through the cycles of life and the seasons: vineyards, grape harvest and wine. The rites, the rhythms of nature and the traditions in danger of becoming extinct offer, through the landscapes and the people who live there, this view in which ethnography and emotion mingle in a revelation of the pagan and mythical influences on the popular celebrations, authentic bacchanals and explosions of fertility and life.
I wanted to make a movie about our ancestral bond with the earth and the vital cycles of transformation. Nature as something magical and mysterious, primordial, atavistic, which our pragmatic civilization has turned into something marginal, reducing it to forgotten superstitions.
The use of different film formats and textures allows me to create a narrative allegory that recreates not only the passage of time, but also, feelings and emotions, as a dream story to cope with reality and the present.
How to explain the world?
The legends of the past had this function; to be a bridge between generations and to show the place that man occupies in the world. Today, in this time of forgetfulness, we need more than ever to trace the origins, nature, magic, chance and continuous metamorphosis of life.
With this background I decided to film my place of origin, Valdeorras, remembering the fascination that their mountains had on me. As a child I wondered what they were hiding behind, and imagined magical and mysterious worlds to discover. Valdeorras, a valley of winemaking tradition since Roman times, is the natural entrance to Galicia, a borderland surrounded by rolling, gentle and magnificent mountains, as well as an immense sea of mountains where myth and ancestry are always present, "the sacred mountain", my mountain.
The harvests of childhood and adolescence have become something very special for me. This feeling shows me the strong bond that I have with the natural environment that surrounded me in my first steps in the world. The entrance into the adult universe, the small temporal spaces of communal tasks, harvest as a gift, as an offering, community work that becomes a party, at stake. During the harvest there is a feeling of general joy, it is the celebration of life. As a child I could feel that this was something special, the bond with nature was present more than ever in those moments, the joy of change, the idea of transformation.
"... willingly accept selective destruction and keep only life." (Thoreau).
During the documentation process for the film, I was able to confirm some of these ideas by referring to the birth certificates of the past centuries in the Valdeorras area. I noticed how during the months of June and July, which are just nine months after the last harvest, birth rates would skyrocket in the whole region.
All those children born nine months after the harvest are Os Fillos da Vide (The Children of the Vine).

Ana Domínguez
She was born in A Rúa de Valdeorras (Ourense).
She studied visual arts at the Mestre Mateo school in Santiago de Compostela, La Massana in Barcelona and the University of Göttingen in Germany. She has developed her artistic career between Galicia, Catalonia and Germany, where she has conducted painting exhibitions, stage designing for plays and performances together with the multicultural group Ball-cans.
She has participated as artistic director and props manager in several film and television projects.
She calls herself a visual creator. She considers her jump to the cinema a natural process where the camera is an extension of artistic expression. She has made short films and video installations such as Autorretrato or Brío (2015) and participated in the laboratory of film creation AA++, devoted to film performance.
Os Fillos da Vide (The Childrens of the Vine) is her first feature film.
Currently she co-directs, in the city of A Coruña, the (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico devoted to avant-garde cinema and its contemporary trends.
