Information for the Audience:
The film No One Knew is directed by me, Marini Fernandez. I specifically wrote the script for this film and ask Aditi Desphande to produce it. During my stay at the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT), I have directed 3 other films prior to this one; these include: Mess, Disconnected, and Adopted. I, however also wrote the script for the Journal which has a similar genre to Mess and Adopted which is drama. These three also have a similar theme which revolves around either friends or family. This latest film, No One Knew, revolves around the friendship of two friends through the grief suffered by the other.
The film is basically about a young girl, Megan, who through the flashbacks is portrayed as a high spirited fashionista and then goes into the depths of grief after her fiancee kills himself. Her best friend, Annie who is also a fashion designer, helps her get through her grief by helping her sort out her life. Eventually, Annie convinces Megan to open the package her fiancee left for her this becomes the turning point of her depression.
I chose this film because I wanted to write a film about mental illness and suicide in the perspective of a grieving loved one and also because I wanted to find out whether or not suicide can be justified in the form of someone suffering a mental illness. In this film we will discover the protagonists ways of coping and dealing with her situation in the form of flashbacks or good memories.
I shot this film like a montage film which reverts back from past to present to the strange opening scene where the mystery guy tries to kill himself. Later on we find out that it is the fiancee who tried to kill himself. I wanted the mood for the past to be bright and happy and then eventually dark whereas I want the present to be dark and moody and then eventually happy where the mood and tone of the past and present completely match each other.
