Set in Albania during communist rule, (1983), the (Kulla) family struggle as they are forced by government agents into internment. For (Artur) the family's son, things get more complicated as the family's new makeshift living quarters is near in vicinity to his love, (Frida), who is forced into an engagement with a high ranking operative.
The family continues to be further subjected into cruel, inexplicable circumstances and, as it is later discovered, the newly repatriated (Nick Nuri), in an effort to help the family, only complicates matters further.
