AMY collides with CHAZ, who causes an accident, which leaves her brother MAX in a coma. Amy's parents, NYLE and JANE, meet with doctor TROY, who is Jane's father, and who confronts both parents with Amy's wish to become a boy. Jane resents Troy for lying to her about being transgender, which reflects hard on her behavior to Amy, whom Chaz threatens with Max's safety if she speaks up to anyone about what happened in the accident.

Jane, crushed by Max's state, leaves Amy's home. Nyle struggles to understand Amy, who cannot tell her father what happened to Max while Chaz raises his demands and blackmails Amy with a surveillance video of the accident. Out of options, Amy submits to Chaz's demands and gathers the money through her summer work. DRINA leads the police investigation about Max's accident and speaks to Amy, who is afraid to tell Drina what happened. Troy informs the family that their health care will not cover Max's operation, which sends Amy's parents on a search for the needed money. Chaz uses Amy for a small theft, and increase pressure on Amy, who is torn between her wish to help her brother and the need to tell her parents the truth about Max's accident.

Amy ends in a DarkWeb scheme for a sex change operation through which Nyle loses all his money he gathered for Max's surgery. Drina steps in, finds and saves Amy and confronts Chaz, whose biggest problem is that Drina is married to his mother. Chaz's parents donate the money they saved for Chaz's college for Max's operation. Amy and Max leave the hospital with their reunited parents, who both accepted that they now have two sons in their family.
