The End of Time is described as an experimental film about that one hypnotic moment on a regular, unassuming Tuesday when one realizes that time has stopped and the universe has been sucked into a single smile.
The principal photography was completed in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba and the post-production in New York City and Macedonia. This is one of the first US-Cuban co-productions, began before the recent relaxation of relations between the two countries.
“The End of Time is a film that would feel equally – if not more – comfortable in a gallery or museum than in a movie theater. In it I continue examining the place where truth and fiction intersect, overlap and fight each other; this time doing it in a minimalist manner,” says Manchevski.
Cinematographer is Alain López Martínez, editor Kristina Pozenel, the music and sound design are by Igor Vasilev Noogradska, the visual effects by Misho Ristov and Rex, and the color grading by Michael Dwass.
Milcho Manchevski’s feature films have won numerous awards, including the Golden Lion in Venice, an Academy Award nomination, David di Donatello, Golden Bug, FIPRESCI, UNESCO, etc. His short forms have won Best MTV video, awards for experimental film, etc. The New York Times included his film Before the Rain on its list of 1,000 best films ever made. He has also directed HBO’s The Wire.
