The Dutar's Night and Day

Synopsis:

The history of dutar in Torbat-e Jam in north eastern Khorasan dates back to more than a thousand years. For the people of that area, dutar is not merely an instrument, but an inseparable part of their identity. Their songs and music manifest many aspects of the everyday culture of the people. These tunes have been passed down from one generation to the next and are a part of the collective memory of the people of that region of Iran. The dutar’s night and day is a documentary about the dutar and the musicians who have inherited this thousand-years-old cultural legacy.
