Chilocco

Synopsis:

In a world where Indian children were held captive by the American government, CHILOCCO tells Carmelita’s story of being stalked by a sexual predator who is a white teacher. Located in Oklahoma in the 1930’s, Chilocco, a government boarding school, attempts to assimilate Indian children into white culture by eradicating their tribal identity. The mission statement of these government schools was popularly known as “Kill the Indian, and save the man.” Told by the resilient Carmelita in present day, this story of rape and revenge reveals a world of desperate struggle by Indian children against a dominating white world.
