The Child is the Mother of the Man

Synopsis:

'THE CHILD IS THE MOTHER OF THE MAN’ enters the deep-dream landscape of an 18-year-old girl whose father is a quintessential Lothario. Though symbolic imagery, this film portrays her emotional subconscious, which deeply craves his love and attention, while simultaneously grappling with the pain and confusion of his destructive behavior. This film seeks to explore the space between Freudian “daddy issues” and the angst of femininity as young women come of age. The film follows Bella, who is following her father David through a red-carpeted black void into a ballroom full of naked strangers. Before Bella can reach David (who is always just out of reach), he suddenly unbuckles his pants and pisses on the ground, as if to be the main act for the audience in front of him. When he finished, he turns to look at Bella, who suddenly appears naked and with a live frog in her hands. As if beyond her control, her hands jolt forward toward her face, forcing her to eat the frog.
