The Cat from Havana tells the story of the most emblematic cabaret in Cuba, Gato Tuerto, founded 55 years ago by Felito Ayon - who also created iconic Bodeguita del Medio. The documentary shows some of the acts that performed on the famous venue such as Pablo Milanés, Omara Portuondo, Meme Solis, Las Capellas, Sergio Vitier, Chucho Valdés and Frank Fernandes (all of whom speak for the first time on camera of their experiences at the cabaret), as well as archival footage of some historic performers like Elena Burke and Cesar Portillo de la Luz. The documentary is comprised of interviews with almost 50 people linked to the history of Gato Tuerto, along with its contemporary artists and people behind the scenes, as well as Jose Luis Cortés, the sisters of Enriqueta Almanza and Bola de Nieve, family and friends of Felito Ayon and the people responsible for the last big refurbishment that took place in the 90's. Along with the interviews, the film presents 20 songs - most of them boleros; Gato Tuerto became famous when it hosted the largest bolero ever perfomed, as noted on the Guiness Book of World Records. 'O Gato de Havana' is a heartfelt tribute (albeit a critical one) to Cuban nighlife and to the night club where Havana's cultured bohemia gathered at; a true meeting point for musicians, artists, painters, poets and writers - Cuban and foreigners, such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Julio Cortázar, long time patrons.
