Three young American aid workers arrive in a little mountain village in Zoopistan to bring democracy and indoor plumbing and instead get themselves into big trouble and many humorous situations by working to create a school for girls and by discovering the lost monastery of Jesus with its trove of secret scrolls, thus creating a religious frenzy around the world. It’s a rare combination of adventure, comedy, religious satire, and good feeling, plus strong roles for women. The literacy theme has never – to my knowledge – been developed in a feature film, so should be of interest to filmmakers looking for new ideas.
