Addiction Anti-Stigma Video

Synopsis:

Produced by Michael Preston. Directed & Edited by Dr. Dave Reiss. For far too long, substance use, addiction, treatment and recovery were issue that people avoided. Conversations were limited to family members and friends behind closed doors for fear of the stigma associated with the disease of addiction.Today, thanks to the people that you are going to hear from shortly and countless others, these issues have been begun to receive the attention they deserve. Substance use, addiction, treatment and recovery are now being discussed at home, at work and in the community. Let’s keep the conversation going so that together we can reverse the rise in overdose deaths in Maryland. Video is a powerful medium to communicate messages that are memorable and move people to action. This video are testimonials of individuals affected by the disease of addiction who shared positive messages for people currently struggling with the disease of addiction, people currently in treatment or recovery, or their family members and individuals who have lost a loved one to the disease. In spite of their tragedy and loss, they deliver messages of hope and healing for us all. Together we can change attitudes in Maryland so that people with a history of substance use disorders, people in recovery, and people at risk for these problems are valued and treated with dignity, and where stigma, accompanying attitudes, discrimination, and other barriers to recovery are eliminated.
