“Materia” shows the transformation of woman’s nature through time, from the ancient Mother-Goddess
worshiping to modern society femmes – all expressed in costumes, created by the director herself.
The movie joins different genres in it as cinema, theater, art of costume, pantomime, chronicle. The linchpin of
the movie is the story of a Woman, that take place in the provisional space. The main idea is supported by
visuals from Russia and world documentaries with corresponding woman image.
Natalia Naftalieva is a famous Russian fashion designer and film director. She made a lot of projects for theatre, cinema and TV as a costume designer, created several theatrical and TV fashion projects, participated in various international cultural events including a fundraising act of UN called Fashion Fights Poverty in Washington, European Culture Days in Luxembourg. She exhibited her collections in Russia and abroad and had a personal exhibition of her costume art collections in National Arts Club of New-York. In 2013 Natalia graduated from Higher courses of movie and TV at Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow specializing in Scenic Film Directing. In 2014 Natalia films her first full-lenght experimental feature “MATERIA” as director and scriptwriter.
