ghostdance for a new century

Synopsis:

A fusion of film and video, this experimental work is a digital re-imagining of my 16mm silent film of 1978 filmed originally in Canyon de Chelly and inspired by the Native American dance performed especially in the 1890’s to drive out the white man and bring back the buffalo. Here a child’s running shadow is laced within multiple frames layered, repeated, and interlocked, rich with desert reds and pale whites overlapping. Music is by composer/cellist Ha-Yang Kim who performs the piece live wherever possible. Ghostdance for a New Century is an evolving meditative landscape set between a eulogy for an unspoken past and a plea for attention to an unmapped future….
