Director Statement

When I was first approached by author Daniel Joseph in regards to making a short documentary on the subject of culture and it's importance in countries that have democracy and those that did not, I was amazed and at the same time a bit overwhelmed at the data he was able to provide supporting that claim. My previous experience in politics was in 2009-2011 as an elected member of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee, but the experience had left me disillusioned and I had turned my focus back to filmmaking. Although the process of taking a significant amount of data, infused with Dan's rapid dynamic delivery was challenging, the process of making this film ad what I had learned, reignited a fire in me that I had long since thought had burned out. In the end I believe we created a film that inspires us to start asking the right questions. Democracy is declining across the globe, maybe it is time we rethink our approach.
